Today's game was a rearranged fixture which saw Kintore Boys Club travel to Persley to take on ALC Pumas. ALC kicked off and looked very comfortable on the ball. ALC were probing from the start but some good defending from Jack Chalmers and Ewan McBain kept them at bay. It was all ALC now and looked like it would be a busy day for Stuart Derval who had to pull off a save at his right post with ALC's number 10 closing in Jack Chalmers cleared for a corner. The corner was taken short and then fired in but Stuart Derval dealt with it well. ALC Pumas were pressing hard for the opening goal with their number 10 and 7 playing well together. The two combined again and the number 10 looked like he would score from the rebound but Stuart Derval had another fine save.
Kintore started playing a bit better with Ross Reid holding the ball up and letting the midfield get up to support. Kintore went in front against the run of play when some good one touch passing up the right led to the ball being fed into Matt Milne who turned and slipped the ball to OWEN LAWSON who was unmarked at the back post and finished well. Kintore got a bit of confidence from the goal and started to play better football. Matt Milne, Liam Duthie and Owen Lawson were linking well up the left. One of these moves saw Matt Milne beat three players and looked to be away but a great last ditch tackle from ALC saw the ball go out for a throw with both players getting injured and the ALC player having to go off. As Kintore had done to ALC for the first goal ALC hit Kintore on the break and their number 10 outstripped the Kintore defence and finished past Stuart Derval who had no chance. Harry Rae had a good chance before half time when he got through but was on his weaker foot and didn't trouble the keeper.
Half Time 1-1
The second half saw Ewan Reid on as a trialist in goal for Start Derval. Kintore started off a lot better with some gritty tackles from Cameron McDonald and Matt Milne. Scott Cadger was on upfront and his pace was catching out the ALC Pumas defence. The game had turned into a midfirld battle now and the four across the middle were winning it for Kintore. Cameron Cobbin, Jack Chalmers and Dylan Chapman were coping well with the ALC front men now. ALC's number 10 was still causing problems and when Liam Duthie went in for a challenge in the box. It was unlucky for Liam but a clear penalty. The number 10 got up and took it himself but rattled the underside of the bar and Ewan Reid's goal was still intact. Ryan Parker was on at right back now and had to make a last ditch tackle which he slid in for and won well to stop the forward going through one on one.
Matt Milne and Cameron McDonald worked a couple of one - two's on the right and Matt sent Cameron through, he played the ball to Harry Rae who shot but the keeper saved. The rebound came out to Ewan McBain who shot but it was saved and fell for Danny Headly who hit the post. The ball came back to Owen Lawson who tried a shot, it was saved again and Danny Headly put it wide from the rebound. How Kintore didn't score was beyond belief but it would have been daylight robbery if they had won this game. Overall game Kintore were rusty from not playing for so long but can't fault their effort.
Mention must go to Liam Duthie and Matt Milne for the ground they covered and second half performances from Owen Lawson and Cameron McDonald. Man of the match must go to Stuart Derval who had his best game yet keeping Kintore in the game along with Jack Chalmers in the first half.
